Stephen King's classic thriller Misery -- which was adapted for the screen in 1990, featuring James Caan and Kathy Bates -- follows successful romance novelist, Paul Sheldon, who's rescued from a car crash by his "Number One Fan," Annie Wilkes. After he wakes up in her secluded home under her care, a manuscript for Paul's newest novel is discovered by Annie, who becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie asks Paul to write a new novel to correct this grave mistake. But Paul quickly realizes that her request is actually the order of a madwoman who has no intention of letting him go anywhere.
